I’m married to my best friend and am a mama to three babies under 5. I’m an avid watcher of Fixer Upper and love all things farmhouse or anything inspired by Joanna Gaines. In my free time (aka before I had kids), I love flea markets, vintage shopping, and doing DIY projects for my own home.
I moved to Virginia to begin my career as a teacher after graduating from Penn State, and have spent the past eleven years in grades K, 1, 4 and 5.
Although I love teaching upper grades, I discovered my real passion as an educator in primary: teaching and assessing reading. I decided to go back to school to get a masters in reading, which has driven me to find best practices during my for collecting student data and using it to drive instruction. I love to take risks and experiment with different approaches to find what works best for my students.
Moving around grade levels has helped me to see the progression that takes place as students grow and learn, and it’s amazing to witness how skills build off of each other to create deeper understanding. The main thing I’ve learned, though, is that, as educators, we must first teach students to love and enjoy learning. I hope to share my passion with others through this blog as we craft comprehension together.
